Atomic Bathys

Post by airframer » Wed Oct 02, 2013 8:46 pm

Interesting - found via a post on WUS. Obviously still in development as it looks like a wrist bomb, but certainly different.  It's regulated via a miniaturized atomic clock housed in a micro-chip

Bathy's Wrist-Worn Atomic Clock:

From Facebook: "Announcing the Cesium 133: the worlds first self contained atomic clock wristwatch. This is a photo of the running prototype developed here at the Bathys Hawaii workshop by John Patterson and George Talbot. We will have YouTube video, more info and photos coming tomorrow.."

Yes, it is incredibly ugly and will likely gain undesired attention from the TSA, but it is a step toward some extreme accuracy.  I am excited to see what happens in five to ten years when the components have shrunk in the wash, and something like this looks like a normal wrist watch.

"The Bathys Cesium 133 actually contains its own atomic clock as you can see and does not need to collect information from any external source to remain this accurate. The problem however is probably initially setting the thing! But Bathys has that covered to as the watch should be able to connect to the internet and update itself with the correct time assuming the battery dies."
