Shinola goes Automatic

Nearly a year ago, Shinola debuted its first-ever mechanical watch in the form of the Lake Erie Monster: a 43mm dive watch with an automatic movement from Ronda inside. What’s more, that watch was a limited edition, with only 500 examples made and a $2,250 MSRP. Now, though, Shinola is finally rolling out a lower-cost mainstream alternative.

Well, make that three alternatives, to be exact, as the diver style is getting three new references: The Lake Superior Monster, the Lake Michigan Monster and the Lake Huron Monster. The former features a black dial and a stainless steel bracelet, while the latter two come on rubber and get navy blue and orange dials, respectively. All three watches will all measure in at 43mm in diameter, feature Sellita SW200-1 automatic movements (in lieu of the limited edition’s Ronda) and are water resistant to 300 meters.

Both the Lake Michigan and Huron will retail for $1,250 while the Superior will fetch $1,450 when they go on sale (October 2nd, 2018), a reasonable step down in price from the Lake Erie limited edition.

I appreciate the effort but Shinola plays in an already crowded segment, and I think you can do better for the money on some darn fine gray market watches from brands that have history.

Do like the Zodiac vibe but as for the price it’s way way beyond what I would be willing to pay. I would say 850-1100 would be in the micro brand pricing.

Nordstrom Rack usually has lots of Shinola’s for sale at half price. Start checking them out if you like this watch. Someday NR will probably have these, you might get lucky and wait for it to go lower than half.

I like it, but at 43mm it’s too big for me.
It's easier to fool people than to convince them that they have been fooled.

Every off-price store near me (NYC/Long Island) is lousy with both Filson and Shinola, I mean, they are everywhere, and with some pretty eye-popping discounts. I think svaglic makes a solid point here.
The same TemerityB from Watchlords, only more violent.
