If there’s one thing I hate about watch collecting is the fact there’s too many styles/brands to choose from. I know most would say get a Rolex for that first luxury watch and I would agree with them but what if you wanted something different? For the last two yrs I’ve been eyeing more like drooling over the Grand Seiko SBGE001. A watch most who aren’t watch collectors wouldn’t even care or ask what’s on your wrist. But as crazy as this may sound I’ve never held one but have held the GMT Master ii the closest competitor to the GS. Now I figured if I start saving now and sell off what I no longer wear I could have my ultimate dream watch in the next 3-4 yrs. But the real question is would you rather wait or would you rather go another route?

For better or worse, my collecting started as quantity vs quality.
I like to have a lot of choices, for better or worse.
As I have "matured" a bit in the hobby, I would probably have not gone that direction since I now have to find the time to sell a lot of stuff from earlier years.

Me as well.
I now limit my collection to $2k and above.

I also started with quantity for the number of choices. Now that I'm retired and don't wear some of them as much I'm trying to thin the herd and focus more on quality.
