2021 The State of Swiss Watch Manufacturing

Post by biglove » Mon Mar 08, 2021 9:43 pm

"Rolex outperformed the broader industry – despite a decline in sales of about 15% last year, the brand remains the top brand in terms of revenue. With a market share equivalent to a quarter of the total, Rolex is the undisputed leader, ahead of its main competitor Omega, which has sales that are just one third as large. The wider Swiss watch industry suffered a decrease of 21% in value and 33% in volume in 2020."

Notice the frenzy, even with Rolex down 15 percent.

All the price gouging isn't coming from Rolex - it's coming from opportunist flippers creating faux shortages. Sadly, according to reports, that includes a couple of crummy ADs here and there.

I like Rolex and I own a couple, but after the past year? If I had enough scratch, I'd walk straight toward the JLC or Omega counter and not even look in Rolex's direction.

Seriously. This stuff is insane. It's a world of good watches, not just that one brand ... err, I should say two, given the Patek Nautilus nonsense that's going down right now.

How Rolex can spend most of the last year and a half with no products in their ADs' stores is crazy. That's not how any of this should work. Funny how I can get virtually JLC or IWC model without having to jump through fiery hoops.
