Best under rated watches??

Post by Ocean » Sat Aug 28, 2021 11:56 am

Everyone has their favorites. I know I do and I could make a case for each. Here’s six of the ones I watch.

Maurice Lacroix

Armand Nicolet

Edox

Alpina

Sinn

Mido. If you have seen the new 2021 Ocean Star diver 600 check it out. At under 1600 it’s simply a steal.

I’d say Longines in some ways is underrated. The last few years saw a massive evolution in their movements - the progressing upgrade to the L888 for time-only watches, now from Nivachron to Silicium hairsprings, extending the warranty for all autos to 5 years... Model-wise, it seems that the Spirit flies under the radar - even though its specs and finishing beat the shit out of the Tudor Heritage Ranger or the IWC Mark XVIII.
My manner of thinking, so you say, cannot be approved. Do you suppose I care? A poor fool indeed is he who adopts a manner of thinking for others!

Yeah, you guys are on the right track:

Edox (shocker, right?)

Maurice LaCroix

Atlantic

Alpina

And ... a tip o' the cap to the Breitling Colt, which I've seen owners of more expensive Breitling models scoff at. I think the Colt is a nice watch, to be sure. Even the quartz models are tough, stylish, classic watches. Used ones are good value either in auto or quartz - I'd take one any time.

Being in the NYC/LI area, there are a lot of Longines wearers in these parts, and I don't see them as underrated at all. Real watch people know Longines.

My point was not a matter of brand recognition, Longines isn’t short on that. It’s just that of all the people aware of the brand, relatively few seem to be aware of what it actually has to offer and how it keeps evolving.

This I totally agree with. The brand is definitely running on all cylinders right now, with innovative sorta/kinda reissues and some new designs and concepts that really rock. And heaven knows the quality is always spot on.
