I wouldn't trust the auto versions as far as I can spit. Seiko's QC standards are dropping proportionally to their increasing prices.
There's not much they can fuck up with a solar-powered quartz. However, I don't think these are particularly practical. Just look at the lume... Large, lumed hands, and just 4 sad pips of LumiBrite on the dial. Jeebus. Speedtimer? Really? That's the legibility anyone would want in a sports/racing chrono? More like TramTimer, BusTimer or PassengerSeatTimer, because behind the wheel at night, this dial and hands would be fuck-useless.
Oh, and the people doing the QC on these are most likely the same people who inspect the autos, so chances are they'll leave traces of their lunch under the crystal of the quartz version all the same.
