Panerai PAM00372

Post by aztecknight » Sun Mar 24, 2013 6:19 pm

You've seen this one a few times in the WURW threads. I picked it up last week and it hasn't left the wrist. The PAM 372, I've been chasing this one for quite a while, the price while outrageous has been coming down and I was waiting to pounce at the right moment. I found a really good deal on watchrecon from a well known paneristi and bada bing bada bang bada boom, it's on my wrist! This watch was at a whole new price point for me and thus my hesitation to purchase it any sooner. I sold several watches to fund this one, including the Bremont SM500 to bedlam, which eased the little buyers remorse I felt. Anyway on to the watch.

The package came with 2 very nice leather straps, one a reddish color and the other a tan color. I preferred the red one, and that's what I've been wearing, of course, this is only temporary as I already have 2 custom straps coming in. The watch also came with a bezel protector, strap changing tool, and an extra crystal.

Movement: Hand-wound mechanical, Panerai P.3000 calibre, 16 1/2 lignes, 5.3 mm thick, 21 jewels, Glucydur® balance, 21,600 alternations/ hour. Incabloc® anti-shock device. Power reserve 3 days, two barrels.
Functions: Hours, minutes
Case: Diameter 47 mm, polished steel, bezel in polished steel, caseback with sapphire crystal, brushed steel device protecting the crown (protected as a Trademark)
Dial: Black with luminous Arabic numerals and hour markers
Crystal: Plexiglas®, 3 mm thick
Water resistance: 10 bar (~100 meters)
Strap: PANERAI personalized leather strap and large-size brushed steel buckle. Supplied with a second interchangeable strap and a steel screwdriver
Reference: PAM00372

It's big at 47mm and has the sexy high polished 1950 style case, the unique and recognizable crown guard is brushed.

The crystal is domed and uses plexiglass, likely why they include a second one. I expect it'll take a few scratches here and there during its time with me. I have the cape cod cloths ready to go. So far though, I've been lucky and have escaped any significant damage to the crystal. Vintage lume, brass hands, and a clean matte black sandwich dial complete the look. The watch is 100M water resistant, so it'll handle a humid day or some rain.

The vintage lume is good at first, but fades much quicker than I'm used to.

It uses the Panerai base in house P.3000 movement. The movement is a hand cranker, but fortunately it has a 3 day power reserve. A neat feature of the movement is that the hour hand can be moved independently from the minute hand. This is not a feature that I use very often, but next time I travel, it'll come in handy moving between timezones. Timekeeping after 9 days is 25-30s off, so somewhere around +3s day. Hard to tell because there is no seconds hand.

Here's what it looks like on an 8" wrist. The straps are the XL version, 125/95, and fit very nicely. They are 26mm and don't taper, which adds to the "big" look of the watch.

Not too much more I can say. It could be better with domed sapphire, but I'm willing to overlook it, I knew what I was getting when I bought it. Other than that though, I love, love this watch. Thanks for looking.

At first I was concerned about the size but the wrist pics took any apprehension I had away. Great pick up Juan. Enjoy that watch to the fullest.

Thank you. This is probably on the edge of how big I'd go, it really does fit well.

Very nice Juan, I am loving the brass hands. Plexiglass crystal? Wow! Never would have thought that. It is a beauty and looks right at home on your wrist. Nice choice of incoming straps as well.

Love the write-up and pix, AK! Great buy - and it looks excellent on your wrist. It would, however, look much better on MY wrist...!! :face:

Damn, Azzy...I can't make up my mind as to which one of them looks better. :cyclops: You've taken a 'perfect 10' and made it a 'godlike 20.' Well done!

I like the look of the red strap in the last two pictures best. Sharp stuff banned!
