Junghans Max Bill Chronoscope

Post by mrneddles » Mon Jul 30, 2012 2:20 pm

Picked this one up last year during a wonderful trip to Paris with mrsneddles. Tons of watch shopping in Paris as you might expect. This one made the trip back with me. It is 40mm East to West, but feels larger due to the minimal bezel. Domed acrylic crystal. "J880.2" movement which I suspect is a 7750 (definitely can feel the rotor spin on the wrist). Signed "Max Bill" on the caseback. The pips have strong lume, as do the narrow hands, kind of a nice surprise when you go from bright sunlight to a dim room.

Love the watch. My only gripes, which are minor: the unsigned buckle, crown and the simple (feels kinda cheap) leather strap. Although I imagine that those parts of the watch were kept as simple as possible to go along with the design aesthetic. Otherwise, it is pure class.

Like Ocean, I've always liked this watch a great deal, and have enjoyed your photos of it. However, I differ from you on the signature issue; I genuinely like the fact that it's not cluttered up with a lot of signatures; I love the clean, crisp appearance of the crown and pushers, and this complements the incredibly cool, minimalistic look of the watch, IMHO.
