Steinhart Ocean 39 Vintage GMT Olko Ed. Joins the Herd..

Post by thunder1 » Thu Mar 04, 2021 7:10 pm

This 39mm GMT is hard to come by. It's only offered by Olko Watches and they only order a handful at a time. So, while they are bargains in $ terms, one has to keep refreshing their web page for new stock. Luckily, a fellow WIS informed me of it's availability a week or so ago & I got lucky to finally snare one.

It differs from the 42mm version in that 1)the case measures a more comfortable 39mm, and 2)the lume is regular Superluminova BGW9 & not the faux variety. And the movement is the Sellita version of the ETA 2893-2, so it is both a very smooth/reliable operator. Here' a couple of pics..

Wow, that's just a great looking watch. Just so perfectly balanced looking.

You guys .... with the Steinharts. One of a handful of brands I have coveted but have never even figured out how to acquire.

Have bought three, if I remember correctly, all straight from Steinhart. And got massively dinged by US Customs on all of them. Like 10-12% dinged.

Steinhart, at least the official site, ships via FedEx. And no one screws you at the border quite like FedEx does. EVERY overseas watch that I have received via FedEx has been nailed. DHL, Japan Post, Singapore Post, Russian Post; never an issue.

I think $800.00(the value of the watch being imported) is the current floor in terms of the end user having to pay excise taxes. This was a FedEx delivery, and I didn't pay anything(the value was about $570.00 or so). I will say that I have read similar posts re: FedEx in the past, though..
