Found a Captain Willard in a junk box

Post by svaglic » Fri Apr 23, 2021 3:29 pm

My dad went to auctions a lot, he was addicted to auctions. He would take the little stuff and fill cigar boxes and stash them in places so he would have room to put his big items and boxes. Today I was in an outbuilding looking for something (which I never found). I found some of my old Army ammo boxes though that I thought were lost. As we were pulling them out, I had to move a cigar box and it was full, so I looked through it and found this.

Am I lucky to what?

Well, that is amazing. Lucky is right! I even like the strap.

That’s because you haven’t seen the strap.

If that was me that distressed it, it might be cool, but I have no idea who that DNA belongs to. I’m going to toss it and get something more correct for it.

I am sooooo lucky. Recliner said the 85 doesn’t mean 1985. He thinks the 8 means 1968, and he thinks it’s all original so it’s worth money.

Hate to take from recliner but the first digit is the year 88,78,68 second number is the month.

Can further be pinpointed by the movement.

In the case of your watch I’m very much inclined to say May 1968

Here’s the reason from 68 to 71 they started changing wording waterproof to water resistant.

Yeah, the proof on the dial and proof on the back are indicators to be one of the first ones. Also, several places on line said these weren’t made in 78.

For that’s one hell of a find. Congratulations
