New Midos coming out

Post by mrneddles » Mon Mar 04, 2013 10:22 am

Sleeper, underappreciated brand. I've owned a few but ended up selling for something else. Well made, interesting styling.

Mido Great Wall

For 2013, Mido's new Great Wall collection is directly inspired by the architecture of the Great Wall of China with a raised dial center motiff resembling paving stones. A striated disc cut through by large hour-markers echoes the ramparts of the Wall, as do the fluted sides of the case.
The case, in stainless steel, measures 42mm. It has an AR-coated sappire crystal, a display back, and it is water resistant to 100 meters.
Movement is the Swiss automatic ETA caliber 2836-2 with 25 jewels, 28,800 vph and a power reserve of 38 hours. It is COSC-certified as a chronometer.
The dial comes in silver-tone, black or anthracite, with a central raised motif, nickel-plated or black nickel-plated applied hour-markers and SuperLuminova covered handsImage

Mido Commander II
The case, in stainless steel, measures 40mm. It has an AR-coated sapphire crystal, a display back and it is water resistant to 50 meters.

Movement is the Swiss automatic ETA caliber 2836-2 with 25 jewels, 28,800 vph and a power reserve of 38 hours. It is finished with Cotes de Geneva decoration.

The dial comes in anthracite, silver-toned or black with sunburst satin finish and SuperLuminova on the hands and indices.

Always like that brand but never owned one.
Like them both but prefer the second. Hidden recessed crown?

Mido remains the best value in the Swatch line-up. I think they are the classiest looking dress watches of their afforables and use some of ETA's most interesting, workhorse movements in their higher grades. It probably won't be long till the prices go up as they are really gaining momentum in the U S market, the object of having kept the prices attractive.
