Deep Blue's Stan banned at WUS

Post by biglove » Sat Mar 06, 2021 5:16 pm

Was just perusing a thread at WUS F71 and there was mention of DB's Stan being banned at WUS some months back. Evidently he was using shill accounts to promote his brand and accidentally logged in via his primary account and posted a shill. Oops.

I would imagine that things are getting tougher for Deep Blue with the likes of better finished Chinese brands such as Heimdallr and San Martin infringing on his range, and at better prices.

Now if only we could see one of those pick up Tritium for their models, DB would truly be in trouble.

Stan started out good... When he ran Panatime, customer service was top notch. He was a supporter of the original BDWF and offered discounts to the membership.

Then, he jumped on the ShopNBC bandwagon with Mongo, Skelly and the Merry Men of Geeks. I can't help but wonder how he would have faired it he didn't. When you think of it, he was one of the original microbrands before they became popular.

His prices are decent, using the discount code, either BLUE or DEEP for 40% off

His new watch has the Kanagawa wave dial. It’s too big for me, but the lume looks great on it. He is a little late to the party on it.
The early DB watches I got were good, dependable watches. If he hadn’t jumped on board with Slop and Geeks, he might have had a chance. Slop dumped him and Geeks went bye bye. Hanging with Skelly, Larry and Mongo didn’t do him any good. DB was seen as a decent tv watch, but when Chinese brands came out with watches with DB cases, people realized that DB was making their stuff through a Chinese catalog and charging too much money. People moved on to the cheaper Chinese brands and DB was left needing to offer 40-50% sales in order to compete. Stan should get back into the watch strap business.

I'm sorry, I've always considered him another Magan or Wing.

Stan used to use eta movements.
I have an yellow and blue 1000m with the stick markers instead of the dots, some of the first ones he made. My brother has taken over the blue dial one and uses it for work. I bought the yellow used, the seller said he had to send it back to DB for repair. I have wondered if it still has the eta or if it was replaced with a Sellita movement. I never took the back off to find out.
I can send it to someone here if they want to check it out and post the results. I don’t need it back.

That's funny..... I remember that being his screen name at the original BDWF....looks like he used that there too when he started out.

Do sponsors need to pay at WUS? I frankly don't see it was that big of a deal otherwise, other than not identifying himself

I believe the kurfuffle was that he didn't identify himself as the brand owner but instead tried to make it appear as if he were a customer offering up the discount. Evidently he may have had a number of shill accounts that he was hawking goods and discounts under.

Likely a violation of TOS as am sure Verticalscope wants $$$ from folks wishing to hawk their own brands, or at least some measure of honesty.

At worst, deceptive and slimy.

My vote is for the latter.
