Althought the watch is certainly a piece of horological shit, it does have the historical importance of being the torpedo that hastened the sinking of the R.M.S. Mink. I'll bet the collector was the late Big Joe, who, although having dubious taste, seemed like a good guy, a hero of 9-11, and through his enduring the revolting abuse of the WatchGeek management, showed sterling class.

Or it could have been Nicky Hayek.

Chunks apparently was the original owner of the watch. It has changed hands a few times since him.
Interestingly the auction is now over. I imagine the watch is trading wrists again outside of eBay.
