@SFWatcher: I owned a Sonata Limited with the same gearbox for the last few years. It takes a few days to get used to. On the other hand, it has the very cool party trick of remote starting and then using the key fob to back the car out of or into a tight parking space. My house has a pretty tight carport, and we keep our trash cans in the back. I use the remote park assist to pull my car out once a week or so. So it's all cool.

I assume it requires Premium gasoline. Beautiful car, Congrats.

I've got nothing bad to say about the Sonata; some didn't care for the looks (apparently, it was a poor seller in Korea, which is its biggest market) but I always thought the 2020 and newer was the tits. Also, the 1.6 turbo with the eight speed auto was a great match, and made the car surprisingly quick and fun to drive. Shortly after I got my Limited, Hyundai came out with the Sonata N-line, with the same power train that's in the Santa Fe Calligraphy. It was a great pairing, particularly if you hated your front tires, as it tended to shred them.

The Santa Fe, with all wheel drive, cures this, and makes it a rocket, especially in sport mode. Interestingly, in comfort mode, it really reminds me of old school American sedans with small block V8s. There's a ton of torque hidden in there, and the power delivers very linearly--if that's a word, and I'm not sure it is. Unlike the N-line, or the Kia Stinger, which starts with the same 2.5 turbo, there's no drama with speed; no grunts, crackles and pops. There's also no special badging on the car, apart from the "2.5T" and "HTRAC" on the back, so it might keep your insurance agent happy.

Sounds very stout John. Modern 4 cylinder turbo cars make crazy horsepower. Example, I own a 2020 VW Jetta GLI 2.0 turbo 227HP 258ft lbs tq. I put a tune on the damn thing and it makes 310HP 347ft lbs tq now. It's safe to say I hate my tires and speed zones. It is nice to know the power is there in case you need it. Which is if your me, it's at every light.

We bought the 2020 as soon as it came out and are thinking of getting it in the next year or two depending on the redesign expected for 2024.

I've heard that Hyundai may drop the Sonata from it's line starting in 2024. Apparently, it's slow selling all over the world, and particularly in Korea, where the sedan still is an important niche in the market. This hasn't been verified, however.

Sedans, alas, are a dying breed.
