What the hell is a Watch Fast??

Post by JAS1125 » Mon Apr 22, 2019 8:10 am

This is new to me, and apparently advocated by the Two Broke Watch Snobs

From Facebook:

Two Broke Watch Snobs
Ah happy to shed more light! Mike and I started the idea of a watchfast specifically for those who felt like their buying habits were out of control. In a sense it’s a measure of mindfulness within watch collecting that we encourage.
When it first started we were both super jaded to all the new releases and constant marketing trying to get us to spend money on watches. We lost sight of the fact that our current collection was still awesome and made us happy. But we needed to give ourselves the opportunity to properly see that - so the watchfast forced us to confront how happy our current collection made us by choosing one Watch to stay on the wrist for a month. It’s not for everyone tbh - only for those who essentially need a watch collecting rat race detox. Hope that insight is helpful!

Thoughts?
Not sure how doing this would be a horological detox to prevent new purchases, but then again I'm pretty much a hoarder so what do I know?

When I first started in this hobby, I had a couple of watches that I thought were cool. As I learned more, I wanted various movements and tried to incorporate dials I liked with the movements. Since I had almost nothing, everything was easy. I had lots of fun doing research and picking up new and vintage watches. As those spots got filled in the way of brands, dials and movements it became harder to look for something. I still have my list, but they seem to be difficult to find and I haven’t been filling many spots in my collection lately. I’ve been playing around with newer homages that are cheap and have dial colors I want, but I really haven’t found the ones to complete my list.
It seems like I’m in a stall, but I do like what I have and am happy with where I am. I’m not going to stop looking or buying though.
It's easier to fool people than to convince them that they have been fooled.

Wayyyy too much though goin' on here with that concept. If the hobby causes you that must angst - or any angst? Go play hacky sack or chase the geese out of your back yard.

I've had nothing but escapist fun with this stuff. Funny how some folks need to complicate things that really aren't all that complicated.

Very true...my one angst is trying to find the time to sell the ones I don't wear much
I need to see if they still do eBay consignment shops
