Vintage pocket watch in need of tlc

Post by Tech255 » Thu Nov 07, 2019 1:47 pm

I have inherited this pocket watch from grandfather but it has some problems, firstly is seems to have been overwound or possibly has a fault with the winder, also if you pull the crown out to set time it has areas where it feels like it sticks.
There is a slight dent near the quarter past marker this is stopping the front clipping on and also the glass is loose.
When you press the crown down the mechanism shows three distinct functions, the mechanism looks in good condition and untouched.
From checking a website about silver hallmarks it is 925 silver with 3 bears which seem to indicate made late 1800 to early 1900 no idea on maker although it has an S with a T inside it not sure if this is a makers mark but would like to try and find out.
What i need to do is get an idea of its value to determine if its worth spending money on to get it repaired i would kind of like to keep it if i can get it working.
I will try and load some pictures.

Welcome, Mr. Tech!

That's an unusual dial; it might be a decimal chronograph, but I'm not sure.

Normally, these silver pocket watches are not worth a lot. Generally, you won't get back what you put into it to get it running. However, some can be worth a great deal, and it's always a good thing to have it serviced for future generations, if you want to keep it in the family.

Take to get it appraised. Might be able to help you better if I could see the movement and the inside markings. That would tell you a lot more information especially the movement. Silver case is nice but without the movement it’s worth whatever the silver scrap is.
