My first real mod

Post by svaglic » Tue Sep 19, 2023 5:17 pm

I’ve changed bezels before, but this is my first mod that I was able to complete.

I had this made, from a guy on another forum. I loved it, the way the bezel and dial played with the light was cool. Then I grew bored, something was missing, it just didn’t play with the light the way I wanted it to.

I had a dial from Aliexpress, I like the Seiko Ginza so when Aliexpress made color dial versions I got several.
I used the charcoal one because I thought it went with the bezel best. I used black hands with orange for some color.

I actually pulled the stem out, took the movement out, pulled the hands then the dial, put a new dial on and new hands, lined it up in the watch case, put the stem back in and the hands worked. I put the case back on and am wearing it. Took about an hour to an hour and a half.

I have been working with eta cases, movements and Seiko dials for a mod for about four months. Every step forward I make, I need to stop and order something new from Aliexpress to finish the job. The end is in sight for them around mid October I think. This dial and hands change was huge for me because I was actually able to complete a mod and it works. It boosted my confidence and keeps me going for the other mods that haven’t been going well.
After I finish my hodgepodge of various brands, case, hands and movement mods, I’ll stick to like brands, like eta dials for eta movements, hands and cases. The mish mash has been tough to figure tricks around.

Nice job, looks great. I find setting the hands the most tricky.

I like the hand tool sticks for setting hands better than the press machine. I put some Bergeron putty on the tip, pick up the seconds hand and set it the little stem in the hole then press. Seems to the best way for me.

The hands have next to zero lume.

I guess that’s fine, I am not a huge lume junkie.

Impressive. I like the look and agree with the setting of the seconds hand. It is a challenge. Does the watch have an 8L35 movement as noted on the dial?

NH35. I got the dial off Aliexpress. I thought the one I ordered was sterile, some come sterile and some don’t.
