Name change with a tip of the hat to Conjurer

Post by JAS1125 » Fri Apr 26, 2019 12:18 pm

Changed from the Metropolitan Club to The Hibernian Room....tradition counts, damnit!

And Conj is right on point

The truth is, BDWF has always been the White Shoe watch forum. It was at its height in the old BDWF, in the Hibernian Room, where, like a fine men's club, members would saunter in, ease back in a wing chair, fire up a cigar and swirl a snifter of Hennessy, and, towards the end of the old BDWF, pass out.

In the glory days, there was much to and fro, plenty of spirited debate. Just because we're the new White Shoe forum on the interwebz, and now allow swearing, goddamn it, doesn't mean that we're a bunch of old, dinosaur fucks.

This is BDWF, where the elite meet to beat their meat. Of course, we have some fine furniture around, with plenty of Cabriole legs and sew Fourth, and Persian carpets on the floor.

The rest of the fora on the web will watch us and wonder, who are these fine fellows, this band of brothers; where else can a newb find a place of such intelligence? TZ-UK? A bunch of elitist dickheads! WUS? Get the fuck outta here--a roundpound of jerkoffs who want to match their watch straps to their socks. Has there ever been a reboot better than this? Better than us? I think not!

Thank you very much, Mr. JAS! I am quite honored to have spurred this name change.

And, honestly, like books and cats, there is nothing much better than the pairing of watches and booze. In the olden days, when one had to visit a jewelers to buy a watch, things were quite different. Few Gentlemen of Taste and Means would think, after a few (or more) rounds of drinks, "wow, I think I'm gonna rush down to the jewelers to buy a watch!" Part of this was because, well, most jewelers closed at five o'clock, or thereabouts, right around the time highly functional alcoholics Gentlemen of Taste and Means would be hoisting their first cocktails.

Now, of course, with the introduction of the interwebz, we can all get so jaked that we blow lunch have a couple of bracing drinks, and then visit Seiya-san and say, "wow, that new SARB is really cool!", or, "Dang, Joma's got a Mother's Day sale on Nixon watches!", and buy 'em, dinging our credit cards with a big smile on our faces, without any regret, until that Patek Sun & Moon shows up from the back of a Brink's truck, and we realize that Junior is going to have to settle on junior college after all.

So, cheers to the Hibernian Room!

No, goddamn it, Arty! This isn't a 1960s Atomic Bachelor Pad!! Oriental carpets! Cabriole table legs! Do I have to draw you a goddamn map??

Allow me, if I may....what the Hibernian Room looked like from the old BDWF archives.

Conjurer, back in the day, is the one with the shit-eating grin. We were celebrating the firing of Jawbone from ShopNBC at the time

Here's what the new room is going to look like...a bit more updated

This is NOT what it will look like

Have tried plenty of them and the NATO just isn't for me. A-T has one that looks better than any other I have seen but I just can't pull them off. They feel like they are cutting into my fat wrists.

Same...I have never had one that fit comfortably. The 2 piece Zulu is close but not enough
