A late Xmas gift for me today...it's the Longines Spirit, black dial, in the 40mm form...it arrived late yesterday morning, and so far, the accuracy is indeed within COSC specs(- 1 spd)...
For me, it satisfies a couple of longings that I've had..1)I've wanted an everyday, go anywhere, do anything(GADA) watch for a while that wasn't one of my divers...while I have a couple of Hammy Field Pioneers that I like a lot, their 42mm case size, coupled w/ their long lug length, are both a little too large for my wrist to wear for long periods of time, and..2)I've been waiting for a 40mm 'Murph' to be released, and this seems to meet that desire as well..I know the Spirit is technically an 'aviation' style offering, but for all practical purposes, w/ its dial layout, coupled w/ its 100m wr rating, it is also a field watch, as well, imo..
There are numerous reviews of these Spirits online, so I won't bore you by repeating much of what they say..but yes, the polished steel rimmed indices, long luminous hands & polished/brushed steel case are very eye catching..the black dial appears to be a 'gloss' black inside the house/office & it's true matt-black color is evident under direct sunlight...
So, who is this watch for then?...IMO, it's for those of us that 1)just like the look & quality construction of it, 2)for those looking for a very worthy, albeit, a cheaper version, of the IWC Mark XVIII/XX, Breitling Aviator or Bremont offerings, and 3)for those that have been waiting for a 40mm 'Murph' to come out..
