WBOTD 8/5/12 - XETUM
Xetum is a small, California based company whose site reads thus:
"Automatic watches for the discerning individual.
Xetum is a collection of California-designed Swiss automatic watches for the discerning
individual. Each men's watch in our collection has been carefully crafted by a veteran team of
Swiss watchmaking professionals to seamlessly blend precision components with
modern aesthetics."
"Modern automatic watches
"Xetum Swiss automatic watches blend modern design with Swiss precision and craftsmanship. Each Xetum men's watch is painstakingly crafted in Switzerland's Jura Valley, using time-tested watch making methods. But our watch styling embodies clean, modern aesthetics. Because old-world craftsmanship doesn't have to mean old school design."
"Personal customer experience
"Of course, it's not just about the watch -- it's about the experience you have with it. That's why Xetum has been built around a personal customer experience. We offer a level of personal attention that is often forgotten in a mass market world. When you speak with someone at Xetum, you'll be speaking with someone who loves automatic watches and who cares that you have a great experience."
"Eco-friendly operations
"Xetum has designed its watches, packaging and operations with environmental responsibility in mind. From renewable cork on our naturally tanned watch straps, to watch boxes made from rubberwood that is saved from being burned, to support of reforestation efforts, Xetum has made environmental responsibility a priority."
"Watch design philosophy
"Each Xetum automatic watch is designed in a clean, modern aesthetic. Our lugless watch cases have no excess decoration or markings to distract the eye. At the same time, we didn’t go too far in the other direction and create stark minimalist men's watches that would feel more at home in a modern art gallery than on your wrist."
"Swiss mechanical watches
"Why Swiss mechanical watches? Because that’s what’s at the heart of making a timepiece enjoyable to own and wear. Each Xetum watch is built around a Swiss automatic watch movement, with an exhibition watch back so that you can appreciate the workmanship that makes your watch run. No batteries, no electronics, no MP3 player – just metal, jewels and the efforts of a bunch of people who wear loupes for a living."
As both a Southern Californian and a semi-minimalist (or at least as much of a 'semi-minimalist' as a fan of Renato can be ), I like the looks of this watch. I also like the idea of a cork-lined leather strap, but can't decide between strap or bracelet.
