Favor, Schätzle & Tschudin
Greeting all. I have found myself down the rabbit hole
I am trying to ascertain as much detail about this watch as possible. I am yet to establish date of manufacture and when the Favor logo changes from the stylised italic one in this watch to a basic font. I cannot find another watch with the same logo as this one for comparrison unfortunately.
What I have managed to discover only makes me want to dig deeper!
Here's what I have dug up so far!
Favor, Schätzle & Tschudin, Pforzheim, Weil am Rhein (DE)1909: Founded for production of watch parts, movements, and pocket watches.
Probably made in La Chaux de Fonds (it has the C under the Helvetia on gold stamp)
The Hallmark of Quality
The first and most familiar are the hallmarks we see on precious metal cases and bracelets. We probably all know the different fineness marks for each metal, 750 for 18ct gold, 950 for Platinum, 375 for 9ct etc… But there are always a couple of little characters that appear alongside them. One of the most commonly spotted on vintage watches is a lady’s head in a shield, her name is Helvetia and she appears on all 18ct gold cases produced in Switzerland while a little letter below her can indicate exactly where the Hallmark was struck, G for Geneva, C for La Chaux de Fonds etc
It has the hammer without handle with 107 inside.
It has the number 53357 (I don't know what this means)
The best yet is that it is still working!
Would really love to know when it was made and whether the stylised Favor name on the watch face is a newer or older logo. If anyone has any to share pics of that would be amazing. This one is rose gold.
