The Sunday morning walk

Post by DBCooper » Sun Aug 19, 2012 5:33 am

Me and my dog were about halfway to the road when I heard some pecking. I had seen Pileated Woodpeckers here before and wanted to try and get some pics so I ran back to the house and grabbed my camera. Luckily he was still pecking and after awhile I found him through the trees. They are from quite a distance in low light (overcast). Took the pics with a 50-200mm lense @ full zoom. The pics are rough, and he wasn't interested in posing.

My dog sniffed this box turtle out up closer to the road.

4 & 1/2 pounds of mayhem.

Pileated Woodpeckers are large and awesome looking. Believe they are the largest variety of woodpeckers and quite prevalent up in the pacific northwest.
